Time for some special edition models!

McLaren, along with a number of other automakers and automobiles is celebrating an anniversary in 2013. This one is special for the British automaker, as it marks 50 years since the company began. Although the big celebration will be held on September 2nd, the British automaker is starting early with the announcement of two 50th anniversary special edition MP4-12C models that will each be limited to just 50 examples.

The new McLaren 50 12C and 50 12C Spider will both feature a number of exclusive components that help to celebrate the company’s 50th anniversary. Each model is produced by the McLaren Special Operations (MSO), a division reserved for only bespoke automobiles, along with the McLaren Automotive design team with Design Director, Frank Stephenson.

Customers will be able to choose from Carbon Black, Supernova Silver, or heritage McLaren Orange exterior colors on the 50 12C models. The front bumpers feature a remodeled Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)-optimized design from MSO that generates a greater amount of downforce than the stock bumper and draws inspiration from the limited run of HS Edition models. Carbon fiber forms the lower-section of the bumper around the air intakes, while the floor is comprised of race-derived carbon Kevlar.

Staring ahead is a special black McLaren F1-inspired heritage badge that has only been available to MSO clients until now. The McLaren 50 logo is worn by new carbon fiber turning vanes along each side of the super car.

Both the McLaren 50 12C Coupe and 50 12C Spider come standard with the 394 x 36 front and 380 x 34 rear carbon ceramic brakes for unrelenting stopping power as well as lightweight McLaren 50 Ultra Lightweight wheels. The Satin Black-finished wheels weigh in at 2 kg (4.4 lbs.) less than the optional Super Lightweight wheels and measure 19-inches up front and 20-inches at the rear.

Inside the Coupe and Spider will be fully upholstered in leather with carbon fiber accessories. Both the carbon fiber sills and floor mats wear McLaren branding while a special anniversary dedication plate is worn on the driver’s door.

Each McLaren 50 special edition anniversary model will be presented to customers with a black and silver monogrammed car cover, limited edition key, carbon fiber key box, and a specially-commissioned print signed by McLaren Automotive Design Director, Frank Stephenson. Only 50 units of the McLaren 50 12C Coupe and 50 of the McLaren 50 12C Spider will be produced with £196,000, and £215,500 price tags, respectively.
