Where “GTD” stands for “Great Top Diesel”.

The Volkswagen Golf and GTI models have an incredible enthusiast following that began in 1974. The new Golf GTD variant has those same enthusiasts from all over excited due to the fact that it’s a new-generation diesel-powered GTI, providing all of the sportiness of the hot hatch with the torque and efficiency of a diesel. Now ABT Sportsline is getting into the game and is changing the “Gran Turismo Diesel” into the “Great Top Diesel” model.

The seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf has already been awarded European “Car of the Year” and “World Car of the Year”, and the German Volkswagen specialists are looking to build upon the car’s success. “The objective was to make this compact diesel even sportier. Our ABT Golf VII GTD is a very, very stylish power package,” said Hans-Jürgen Abt, CEO of ABT Sportsline.

Powering the Golf GTD is a turbodiesel 2.0-liter engine cranking out an impressive 184 horsepower and 280 lb-ft. of torque all while achieving low emissions and high fuel mileage. But the team at ABT Sportsline wanted to turn things up a notch so they developed a new ABT Power tune paired up with a four-pipe exhaust that bumps output up to 210 horsepower and 317 lb-ft. of torque.

Emphasizing the enhanced performance of the ABT Sportsline GTD is a new styling package. The kit changed the fascia of the hot diesel hatchback with a new spoiler and thinner grille paired up with headlight covers that create a more aggressive character. A pair of mirror covers and side skirts decorates each side while a rear skirt integrates the new quad exhaust system.

The final touch on the new ABT Sportsline Golf GTD is a new wheel fitment. Customers can choose from either ABT EC-R or DR lightweight alloy wheels with a variety of finished and sport tires for better overall performance and style.

The new Golf VII GTD by ABT Sportsline upgrade package is currently available with all of the aforementioned components. Customers can choose individual accessories or transform their oil burner with the entire package.
