BMW Does the Two-Step

BMW 2-Series

Breaking cover with little camouflage in Munich is the new BMW 2-Series. The Newest Bavarian will have four-cylinder engines, including three different 2.0-litre petrol variants and a turbo diesel 2.0-litre engine.

All engines will be deliver power through either a six-speed manual transmission or an optional eight-speed automatic. BMW’s famous xDrive system will be available as an option.

There are whispers hinting at a top-line M2. The UK publication Auto Express reports that a top-end performance model could feature a 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine producing 355 hp. Both automatic and manual transmissions would be available. The M2 would also feature M division-spec materials and aerodynamics.

Performance figures have not been reported for the M2, but expect figures to be between the outgoing M3 and the recently discontinued 1M.

All should be revealed at Frankfurt. The 2-Series is destined to hit showrooms in 2014 and an M2 will follow and be released in 2015. In keeping with BMW tradition, be on the lookout for variants with no roof or two extra doors. BMW, with the 1,3,4,5,6,and 7 (remember the 8) series, is adding to it’s numerical empire.
