APS Sportec’s 846-hp SPR1R Supercar Exposed

APS Sportec SPR1R

The SPR1R: now available with even more whiplash!

After blowing away those who attended the 2009 Salon Privé with the SPR1 based on the 997 911 Turbo, APS Sportec is again planning on stealing this year’s show with the SPR1R. The newest version of the SPR1 will again be based on the pre-facelifted 911 Turbo and feature a hardcore 848 hp 3.6-liter engine, a substantial drop in weight, and dynamic suspension and aerodynamic upgrades that make the SPR1R one of the most powerful and exclusive supercars on the market.

The most impressive aspect of the SPR1R is the twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter flat-six T80M engine producing 846 hp at a lofty 8,200 RPM and 642 lb-ft of torque at just 4,800 RPM. The T80M features F-1 style titanium connecting rods, forged alloy pistons, and Sportec hybrid turbochargers amongst other power upgrades to create an outstanding 238 bhp per liter of displacement. The adjustable traction control, vehicle data, and lap timer is displayed through a touch screen mounted on the center console to achieve optimal performance. Mated to a six-speed manual and a permanent all-wheel drive system, the SPR1R can accelerate to 62 mph in just 3.0 seconds and hit 186 in just 8.9 seconds. Top speed is set at a blistering 236 mph.

In order to improve upon the SPR1, Sportec engineers focused on reducing weight and creating a safer, more dynamic supercar. To achieve this, engineers installed a flat, carbon fiber underfloor, carbon fiber/Kevlar composite body panels, and an integrated safety cage. The result was a weight loss of 110 lbs, making it one of the lightest and most powerful supercars weighing just 2,849 pounds and achieving a power-to-weight ratio of 655 bhp per ton.

To further enhance the driving dynamics of the SPR1R, new suspension, brake, and wheel upgrades have been added. Improving the SPR1R’s handling is an active suspension system with adjustable ride height, shock absorbers, and rear anti-roll bars. New eight-piston front and four-piston rear lightweight calipers grab onto cross-drilled and ventilated ceramic discs for relentless stopping power. Finishing the package are new forged wheels that measure 9J x 20 with a 30mm offset at the front and 12.5J x 20 with a 40mm offset at the rear. High performance 255/30 R20 92Y XL front and 345/25 R20 100Y rear tires coupled with the carbon fiber rear wing add stability and grip.

Pricing and availability for the APS Sportec SPR1R have not been released. The supercar is set to make its British debut at the 2010 Salon Privé from July 21st – 23rd.
