Brabus 700 Biturbo SLS AMG Gullwing Exposed

This Gullwing can really fly!

Brabus is one of the largest tuning companies in the world, and also one of the premier tuning companies for Mercedes-Benz. So when Mercedes introduced the SLS AMG as the next generation Gullwing, Brabus was quick to develop tuning programs and products to take the supercar to the next level of performance and style. At first it began with subtle performance products and aerodynamics. Then the German-based tuner introduced their Widestar bodykit that increased rear track of the SLS AMG. Now Brabus has come full circle with their newest 700-horsepower turbocharger upgrade for the mighty Gullwing.

The newest performance tuning program for the SLS AMG has been completely designed and engineered by Brabus. The new twin-turbocharger system for the SLS AMG is not your average forced-induction system. Normally, for V-shaped engines, tuners and manufacturers use two right-turning turbochargers. This design can lead to a slower throttle response. So, Brabus engineers developed a left-turning turbocharger for the left cylinder bank, while the right-turning turbocharger was used for the right, thus optimizing gas flow and improving throttle response. The B63 bi-turbo system also uses air diverter valves and redesigned high-performance exhaust manifolds for greater efficiency and responsiveness. To cool the air being sucked in through high-performance air intakes, Brabus has fitted a large intercooler system with two water-to-air heat exchangers. All components work together with a reprogrammed engine management system with integrated electronic boost control, and meets Euro V emissions standards. The B63 bi-turbo system also includes a quad-tailpipe titanium exhaust system that weighs 26 lbs. less than the stock system and includes a hydraulic flap to control the volume of the exhaust note. Altogether, the B63 bi-turbo engine upgrade pushes the stock 563 horsepower and 480 lb-ft. to 700 horsepower (690 bhp) at 6,600 RPM and 626 lb-ft. (850 Nm) at just 4,300 RPM. This added power launches the Brabus 700 Biturbo to 62 mph in 3.7 seconds, 124 mph in 10.2 seconds, and to a top speed of 213 mph (340 km/h).

The new Brabus 700 Biturbo is a culmination of all of the technology Brabus has developed for the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, which is why the German tuner chose to showcase their Widestar bodykit. The kit adds widebody flares to the rear axle, increasing the track by 0.8 inches (20 mm) for better driving dynamics. The entire kit was designed in a wind tunnel for optimum aerodynamics and is made of lightweight and durable carbon fiber. The front features a carbon fiber spoiler and two air inlet covers for a more aggressive face. Along both sides are skirts that optimize airflow, and illuminated Brabus gills. The rear sports a spoiler lip and diffuser for added downforce, while the apron uses two air outlets for improved airflow.

The Brabus 700 Biturbo SLS AMG is not just about straight-line speed. The company also paid attention to upgrading the suspension, wheels, and tires. New Bilstein suspension components were added and allow for the ride height to be lowered by 1.2 inches (30 mm) and stiffness to be adjusted with the use of an integrated “Ride Control” function. The suspension can also be ordered with the Brabus front-end lift system that raises the front by 2.0 inches (50 mm) for extra clearance. Brabus has also installed front and rear stabilizers to reduce body roll and provide precise handling. In addition, new lightweight forged Monoblock F “Platinum Edition” wheels have been installed in a staggered 9.5J x 20 front and 11J x 21 rear fitment, and weigh 12 percent less than the stock wheels. Customers can order the wheels in a ceramic-polished or chrome with brushed design surface finish or they can opt for a custom paint color. For even more grip, new 275/30 ZR 20 front and 295/25 ZR 21 rear Pirelli or Yokohama tires are fitted.

Inside, Brabus offers a wide range of leather and alcantara in any color, matched to a range of matte or polished carbon fiber trim. At the heart of the cockpit are an ergonomically-designed steering wheel and a 250-mph (400 km/h) speedometer. Matte anodized aluminum pedals and foot rest hint at the sporty character of the Brabus 700 Biturbo. The Brabus upholstery department will completely customize the interior to customer specification.
