Brabus GL63 Biturbo Exposed

Brabus GL63 AMG

Sport, elegance, and power all wrapped into one hell of an SUV.

At the heart of the Brabus GL63 is a V-8 transplanted from the Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG. Simply swapping engines however, was not enough for the Brabus engineers. A twin-turbocharger system was developed specifically for the V-8, incorporating a left-turning turbocharger for the right cylinder bank to achieve optimal exhaust gas dynamics. Small turbochargers were used to provide a fast response, and use exhaust gasses from only three of the cylinders on each bank. Air is cooled by a large water-to-air intercooler and sucked through dual intake manifolds, each bearing Brabus logos. Two high performance catalytic converters and reprogrammed engine electronics reduce emissions and increase performance. The twin-turbocharger system provides 626 lb-ft. of torque, peaking from 3,000 to 5,500 RPM, while 650 hp is reached at 6,200 RPM. Sending power to the permanent four-wheel drive system is a reinforced seven-speed Speedshift 7G-Tronic automatic transmission. Acceleration from 0-62 mph takes just 4.7 seconds on its way to an electronically limited 186 mph top speed.

Reinforcing the tremendous power of the Brabus GL63 are dominant aerodynamic modifications. Developed in a wind tunnel, the front bumper is designed to reduce lift and increase airflow to the front brakes. Contoured fender flares add 2.4 inches to the width of the GL63 and create a commanding presence. A roof spoiler and rear diffuser contributes to a reduction in lift at the rear axle, while the rear bumper houses the menacing stainless-steel quad exhaust. Four new auxiliary headlamps and a daytime LED lighting system are featured at the front of the GL63. Rocker panels house entrance lights along both sides of the Brabus GL63, while underfloor lights are integrated into the rear bumper.

Brabus has tuned the Airmatic suspension system, lowering the GL63 by 1.2 inches for a better center of gravity. A high performance brake system has also been fitted for outstanding stopping power. Vented and cross-drilled 15×1.4-inch discs with 12-piston calipers are fitted to the front axle, while 14×1.1-inch discs and 6-piston calipers are fitted at the rear.

Standard on the Brabus GL63 are nine-spoke, three-piece Monoblock E Platinum Edition wheels. Measuring 11Jx23, they can be fitted with either Pirelli or Yokohama high performance 305/30 R 23 tires. Additionally, two different forged Monoblock 21-inch wheels or five different Monoblock 22-inch wheels can be fitted for a truly unique appearance.

While the exterior may be imposing, the interior is inviting and luxurious. Featuring supple Mastik leather and Alcantara, the cabin is custom-built to customer specifications. Carbon fiber and select wood inlays are available to compliment the leather. Integrated into the backs of the front seats are two seven-inch LCD screens, DVD player, and folding tables for an enjoyable ride. A sports steering wheel and 200 mph speedometer allude to the ferocious power under the hood.

Pricing for the Brabus GL63 Biturbo will start at € 368,000 and will be limited to a small series production.
