The Land Rover Defender has never been an off-road luxury transportation vehicle, but the Chelsea Truck Company is looking to change that with the new XS 90. Under the A Kahn Design umbrella, the Chelsea Truck Company has given the original Defender a whole new character that does not take away from the outstanding all-terrain capabilities of the SUV.
The fist aspect that the Chelsea Truck Company focused on with the Land Rover XS 90 was the exterior. The front fascia was given a slight makeover with light protector surrounds and a Kahn grille with satin black mesh. Both of the headlights were upgraded to brighter xenon lights and the indicator lights were given white lenses. The rear spare wheel was fitted with a special Chelsea Truck Company cover and Kahn branding was placed throughout the exterior. The finishing touch was a special Kahn wheel fitment. Unique 1983 RS Defender wheels by A Kahn Design were fitted in an 8 x 18 setup and perfectly complement the rugged design of the SUV.
Powering the 1983 RS Defender wheels is a stout 2.2-liter engine with 175 bhp and 266 lb-ft. of torque. The team at the Chelsea Truck Company was also able to improve both the carbon dioxide emissions and fuel economy on the Land Rover XS 90.
The interior of the rugged SUV is where the real transformation is apparent. The once basic and bare cabin has been refreshed to provide occupants with a more luxurious and comfortable ride. The front and rear racing seats wear a coat of quilted red leather along with the center console, dashboard, door tops, and gear gaiter. Even the roof liner and sun visors wear the same soft, red leather. Facing the driver is a set of Kahn red speedometer and tachometer fascias and a leather/alcantara steering wheel. A set of machined and ventilated aluminum foot pedals greet the driver’s feet.
The Chelsea Truck Company Land Rover Defender XS 90 is currently available from the British brand. Customers have the option to configure almost every aspect of the XS 90 model with a wide range of colors, materials, and upgrades to suit their tastes and style.
