This 911 Turbo Blackburn was faster than the 918 Spyder.
For over one year, the team at edo competition has been testing and fine-tuning their 991 Porsche 911 Turbo S ‘Blackburn’ project with the goal of becoming the fastest Porsche ever on the Sachsenring race track. After all that hard work and long hours, they set a new record – even beating Walter Röhrl’s time in the Porsche 918 Spyder.
The 991 Porsche 911 Turbo S that served as the starting point for the edo competition Blackburn record-setting car had to be heavily modified to achieve the lofty goal. The twin-turbocharged flat-six engine was equipped with the company’s Stage II upgrade kit that pushes output to 669 horsepower and 649 lb-ft. of torque in Overboost. This gives it a 0-60 mph time of less than 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 212 mph.
Due to the curves at the Sachsenring race track, the chassis of the super car also had to be modified. edo competition and KW created a special competition threaded chassis with adjustable support bearings and separate expansion tanks that allows for the compression and rebound settings to be individually set. Sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 semi-slick tires were won by the lightweight center-locking 20-inch forged wheels to allow the Blackburn to achieve maximum grip.
With professional driver, Marc Basseng, behind the wheel, the edo competition Porsche 911 Turbo S Blackburn took a few test laps before the chassis was fine-tuned to achieve the fastest time. After being fully prepped, the edo competition Blackburn headed out and was able to speed through Sector 2 with a slight 0.3-second advantage over Walter Röhrl and the Porsche 918 Spyder. Röhrl’s speed and time were also matched by the Blackburn in the downhill section as well.
After the lap was completed, Basseng and the edo competition Blackburn was able to achieve the fastest times in Sector 2 and 5 of the track and achieve a lap time of 1:30.15, giving it the record for being the fastest Porsche on the Sachsenring, confirmed by the Vbox unit.
Many of the upgrades featured on the record-setting Porsche 911 Turbo S Blackburn are currently available from edo competition for owners that have record-setting ambitions.
