Friday FAIL: Chevy Camaro ZL1s Can’t Swim

Taking a dive into the deep end.

The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 can do it all. The supercharged muscle car can handle, stop, and blow the doors off other cars in a classic stop light drag race. In the hands of an experienced driver on a track, it becomes a beautiful display of performance. In the hands of an inexperienced young driver in a neighborhood, it will also go for a swim.

In a northwest Harris County neighborhood, a young driver took out a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for a ride through the neighborhood and ended up putting it into the community pool as his friends watched. Young drivers are going to make mistakes; we all did. Getting behind the wheel of a 580 horsepower, supercharged Camaro in front of friends is just a disaster waiting to happen.

According to Ashton Brantley, who was driving another car during the accident, he believed traction control was turned off.

“I was driving right behind him the whole time,” said Brantley. “He lost control, and I think he took his traction control off. And then he just hit the curb, and then went into the fence, and then he hit the pool.”

Luckily, the driver was able to escape through the window while in the water and swim to safety.

The tow truck driver was left with quite the job, though. He had to jump into the pool and go underneath the car to secure special straps attached to a crane in order to lift the car out.

This Camaro just wanted to go for a swim with a young driver behind the wheel, and for that, we’ll slap a big Friday FAIL on him. This flooded Camaro will be a total loss and will make a lot of car enthusiasts cringe.

On a scale of 1-10, how big of a FAIL is this nautical Camaro at the hands of its young driver?
