Friday FAIL: There’s one less McLaren F1 in the World

McLaren F1 Crash

Why, oh why?

The McLaren F1 was an automotive masterpiece when it first hit the scene in the early 1990s. It was the absolute pinnacle of automotive performance and technology. The F1 was so advanced and its performance was so incredible that it still holds its own against supercars today – a whopping 20 years later!

The red and white McLaren Bespoke Project 8 F1 model, chassis No. 072 is even more special due to its unique color combination. Recently, a McLaren F1 sold for $10.5 million, so this one probably would’ve fetched well into the eight-figure range itself.

McLaren F1 Pre-Crash

During a supercar tour in Italy between Saline di Volterra and Pomarance, the No. 072 chassis red and white McLaren F1 lost control and flipped while crashing into a tree and ending up in a ditch, upside-down. It was an utterly horrific scene. Both driver and passenger had to be airlifted to the hospital, and our prayers are with them.

The cracking and sounds of parts being broken as the recovery team removing the car from its upside-down state is like nails on a chalkboard.

McLaren F1 Pre-Crash

This McLaren F1 crash was obviously an accident, but we have to slap a big Friday FAIL on it just because of the fact that such a rare and impressive automotive legend was damaged so badly. We’re also going to assume that the car will be restored after seeing the bids these supercars are getting at auction.

How hard was it to watch this McLaren F1 be recovered from a ditch?
