Geneva Preview: Lexus LFA Nürburgring Package

Lexus celebrates its three 24 Hours of Nürburgring victories in the LFA with a new track package.

Lexus has finally announced that their new LFA Nürburgring Package will be showcased at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. The new track-oriented package boasts new aerodynamics, more power, and new colors.

The Nürburgring Package gives the LFA greater aerodynamics that achieve more downforce at high speeds than the original LFA. A new Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) front spoiler increases downforce at the front axle in conjunction with new side flics. The rear wears a large CFRP spoiler that keeps the LFA planted at high speeds. To further improve handling, the Nürburgring Package includes a retuned suspension and 10-mm lowered ride height. The package also equips the LFA with exclusive mesh wheels with high-grip tires.

The engine and transmission also receive minor changes. The 5.2-liter V-10 gets a 10-horsepower boost with the Nürburgring Package, bringing the total output to 562 bhp. The six-speed sequential transmission is also quicker, with shift times taking just 0.15 seconds to complete. The new improvements result in a 0-62 mph time of just 3.7 seconds.

Only 50 Lexus LFAs will be built with the Nürburgring Package. Exterior colors are limited to matte black, black, white, or orange. Interiors can be ordered in black and red, black and purple, and all-black, with European customers receiving carbon fiber center consoles, door trims, and seats with alcantara. In addition, Nürburgring Package customers will receive personal instruction from a chief Nürburgring instructor and a one-year pass to the racetrack. The Nürburgring Package will add $70,000 to the LFA’s $375,000 base price, with the matte black paint adding another $20,000. So, customers that check off every option may see a $465,000 price tag!
