Ride shotgun with Christian von Koenigsegg in his newest beast.
The Koenigsegg Regera is one of the most advanced vehicles that’s not right out in front of you in the media like a Tesla or the new LaFerrari. At the little factory in Sweden, Christian von Koenigsegg have engineered an incredible machine that uses a combustion engine, electric motors, and has a drivetrain with no gears.
While the latter seems unfathomable, Christian and his team developed the Koenigsegg Direct Drive Transmission (KDD) that reduces drivetrain losses and negates the need for any step-up or step-down gears – it’s just the engine’s power going to the wheels.
This, and lots of other technology, were shown on video for the first time thanks to Koenigsegg copywriter, Steven Wade, as he got the chance to ride shotgun with Christian in the new Regera. Even on video, the lack of gear changes with the twin-turbo V-8 roaring in the background is a bit odd to experience, but it’s the future of motoring and it’s something to get very excited about.
