Time to mow the absolute hell out of your lawn.

Honda makes more than just automobiles. The Japanese company builds power tools, generators, motorcycles, aircraft, motors, and lawn mowers. The company has been known for its innovation and when they wanted to showcase their range of products and forward-thinking nature, they built the Honda Mean Mower.

The Honda Mean Mower is a 130 mph, lawn mower that will put a smile on your face whether you’re actually cutting grass or speeding on a track. Now, the legendary lawn shredder holds the title of being the Fastest Lawn Mower according to Guinness World Records.

The Honda, Guinness World Records, and Timing Solutions Limited teams assembled at the IDIADA Proving Ground, in Tarragona, Spain, on Saturday 8th March 2014 to record the incredible feat of lawn care engineering. Piers Ward of BBC TopGear Magazine was behind the wheel and with good reason too. He had previously set the world record back in 2010 for fastest lawn mower with an 87.83 mph run.

Armed with the 109 horsepower Honda Mean Mower, Ward was able to average a speed of 116.57 mph for the day, breaking the previous record by almost 30 mph. The criteria for the record was strict as the mower must complete two runs in both directions within an hour as it is recorded inside a 100-meter speed trap by official timers, cut grass, and look like a lawn mower. The two runs were met, the grass cut, and the record confirmed.

“The original brief for Mean Mower was to create the world’s fastest lawnmower – and now it officially is, by some distance,” said Ellie Ostinelli, PR Communications Manager for Honda (UK). “We are all delighted to hold a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title and we’d like to thank everyone who was involved in what has been a challenging yet incredibly exciting project.”

The Honda Mean Mower is an impressive machine. It’s based on a Honda HF2620 Lawn Tractor and is powered by a 1,000 cc engine from a Honda VTR Firestorm. Honda’s British Touring Car Championship racing partner, Team Dynamics built the entire mower using lightweight and motorsport-oriented parts while keeping an eye on safety during the process. The Mean Mower weighs in at just 308.6 lbs. and has 109 horsepower and 71 lb-ft. of torque, which is good for an incredible 532 bhp per ton power-to-weight ratio. That’s good enough for an approximate 0-60 mph time of just 4.0 seconds. Plus, it can cut grass at speeds up to 15 mph.

However, at the end of the day, we’re left pondering if a 116 mph run is more satisfying than the smell of fresh cut grass.
