Honda Pays Tribute to Ayrton Senna

An innovative tribute to a legendary driver.

Ayrton Senna is regarded as one of the best Formula One drivers of all time and one of the best men to get behind the wheel of an automobile. He holds numerous records and was a three-time Formula One World Champion. His unfortunate passing in the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix led to the sport to adopt stricter safety measures and has resulted in him being the last fatality in Formula One racing.

Honda played a big part in Senna’s storied career, providing him with engines that powered him to victory. He even helped to fine-tune the suspension of the NSX during its development.

As a tribute to the legendary driver, Honda created the “Sound of Honda – Ayrton Senna 1989” film. Honda installed lights and a large amount of strategically-placed speakers on a dark Suzuka racetrack, and used his telemetry data and recorded audio to create Senna’s “ghost” as it raced around the track in front of a small crowd.
