IMSA Goes Big with the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG

IMSA Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG

A bold, boxy, badass.

While the original Mercedes-Benz G-Class was built for true off-road duty, it has since transformed into more of a boxy luxury SUV – or at least that is what its customers use it for today. The team at IMSA was able to take this potent off-roader and make it into a conspicuous luxury cruiser that still packs one hell of a punch.

With the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG as the starting point, IMSA developed a full carbon fiber body kit made up of 16 parts. The factory front fascia is transformed through the use of new air inlets and side lips while a sight-carbon grille, bumper straps, air inlets, A-pillar, and hood set add a more dynamic character to the SUV.

Each side of the boxy brute wears powerful fender extensions that visually put its added output on display, both of which are connected by new plated running boards. Along either side, new trapezoidal exhaust outlets sit and emit a growl. A chromed stainless steel underride guard sits at the front and rear to protect against any obstacles that might be hiding off the road. New carbon-sight mirrors and C-pillar air outlets add to the sportiness. At the rear, the IMSA G63 AMG boasts a new bumper straps.

The off-road chassis was tuned up for comfort and performance on the asphalt by IMSA to suit its wealthy customer base. The factory wheels were swapped out for a new set of 11.0 x 22 forged wheels strapped with 305/40 R22 tires. These are paired up with IMSA shock absorbers that are designed for use on the asphalt instead of the harsh off-road terrain.

While looks were important, the IMSA Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG boasts a hefty power upgrade that makes it command the streets. The 5.5-liter, hand-built twin-turbocharged V-8 engine was given a new pair of turbochargers, intercooler, and engine software tune. A full exhaust system with downpipes, high-flow sport catalytic converters, and side pipes reduces backpressure and emit a devilishly seductive sound. All of those goodies equate to a whopping 730 horsepower and 763 lb-ft. of torque.

Inside is where the real luxury comforts up to four passengers with its posh style. Everything that wasn’t already covered in soft AMG leather has been dressed in the soft material. The entire rear bench seat was removed and replaced with a new pair of front seats to give rear passengers more space and satisfaction. The center console extends rearwards as well with integrated comfort functions and features for that first-class feel.

The new IMSA Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG is currently available as a full package for customers that want a more luxurious, high-performance ride that packs a thunderous punch.
