Where forced induction > natural aspiration.

The big trend in the automotive industry is switching over to forced induction engines to create more power with greater fuel efficiency. One of the latest examples of this is the new 4.6-liter bi-turbo V-8 engine that is now featured in the Mercedes-Benz E500, and other 500-series models in the automaker’s range. The switch to turbocharged engines also means that they pack quite a bit of potential, which is exactly what VÄTH Automobiltechnik GmbH exploited with their new W212 tuning program for the E500.

The new upgrade program for the Mercedes-Benz E500 by VÄTH Automobiltechnik virtually puts the E63 AMG model into question due to its tremendous performance from the upgraded 4.6-liter V-8. The twin-turbo V-8 was equipped with a new charge air cooling system, in-house rear muffler for a sportier sound, and fuel, engine, and transmission oil coolers. All of the components were tied together with a custom-developed ECU to push output all the way to an AMG-rivaling 520 horsepower and 597 lb-ft. of torque.

Packed with VÄTH Automobiltechnik’s W212 tuning program, the E500 is able to produce more power than both its naturally-aspirated and current twin-turbocharged AMG brethren, while also achieving superb fuel economy. The acceleration to 62 mph takes a mere 4.5 seconds when equipped with the specified tires, and top speed is pegged at over 186 mph.

In terms of the chassis, VÄTH Automobiltechnik also gave the E500 the necessary tools to help compensate for the extra power while also adding a touch of style. The standard Mercedes-Benz Airmatic suspension system was modified so that the first stage remains comfortable and soft, while the second setting sharpens up the dampers for more composed handling through the corners. New three-piece in-house forged wheels in a 9 x 20 front and 10.5 x 20 rear setup with 245/30/20 and 285/25/20 high-performance tires were added to provide a stylishly wide footprint. Behind the new forged wheels sit a hard-biting set of six-piston brake pistons with 390 mm discs at the front axle with stainless steel lines and racing fluid.

In terms of styling, VÄTH Automobiltechnik installed new interior and exterior components as part of the new upgrade program for the E500 sedan. A new carbon fiber front spoiler, badgeless radiator grille, rear diffuser with fins, and trunk spoiler lip were installed on the body to improve high-speed aerodynamics for a more composed ride. Inside, a leather sports steering wheel has been fitted and can be optioned with carbon fiber or wood, along with a new 360 km/h speedometer.

The entire VÄTH Automobiltechnik W212 tuning program for the E500 sedan with the 4.6-liter V-8 is currently available from the German company for 32,250 Euros plus VAT. As an option, customers can also order individual styling and performance upgrades for the Mercedes-Benz E500.
