Infiniti will be ushering in a new generation of vehicles over the next few years and one of the more exiting previews for their upcoming mid-size segment is the new Q60 Concept. The new sports coupe made its debut at the 2015 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) and gives us a glimpse at the premium-grade adrenaline making its way into the automaker’s lineup.
The new Infiniti Q60 Concept is a 2+2 lifestyle, sports coupe that wraps the next-generation of efficient and advanced powertrains in a fluid and muscular package with high-quality finishes and high-tech features.
“The Q60 Concept is Infiniti’s most emotional and accessible concept so far,” said Francois Bancon, Infiniti Vice President, Product Strategy.
“This concept goes beyond a flight-of-fancy design exercise; it is the next proof point in Infiniti’s concept-to-production approach. Come next year, Infiniti will produce a sports coupe with influences from the Q60 Concept.”
A similar design language has been injected into the DNA of the Infiniti Q60 Concept as the Q30 and Q80 Concepts, previously shown. The two-door fastback concept commands attention with a powerful road presence, echoing its performance capabilities. The proportions and lines that designers penned create the impression of movement and athleticism, even at rest.
Character lines run the length of the Q60 Concept, starting at the double-arched grille to the aerodynamic rear spoiler, while incorporating the headlights and muscular fenders. These powerful fenders dip and extend to showcase the concept’s dominance while emphasizing the 21-inch wheels and their arresting spokes covered in matte black and high-gloss chrome finishes.
The large double-arch grille stares ahead prominently, flanked by two sleek headlights to create a menacing look. Below, large intakes with integrated aerodynamics help to optimize the flow of cooling air to the brakes and engine bay. At the rear, a spoiler is integrated into the trunk, while two sleek taillights mirror the styling of the headlights. Two large exhaust tailpipes feature a shape similar to the Infiniti logo and are incorporated into the lower fascia to create a large, powerful shape.
The interior of the Infiniti Q60 Concept is a blend of premium craftsmanship and driver-oriented design. Hand-stitched leather adorns the instrument panel, steering wheel, and door inserts while carbon fiber door accents hint at the car’s performance capabilities. Supportive bucket-style seats are used not just up front, but for the two rear passengers as well, giving all occupants the chance to experience the Q60’s performance.
Powering the Infiniti Q60 Concept is the next-generation 3.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V-6 engine that first made its debut in the Q80 Inspiration at the Paris Motor Show. The engine will be smaller, lighter, more efficient, and more powerful than the units it replaces, and will make its way into the automaker’s lineup within the next two years.
New technologies were integrated into the Infiniti Q60 Concept that enhance the driving experience rather than take away or restrict it. Enhanced Infiniti Direct Adaptive Steering transmits the driver inputs faster than a traditional mechanical system while providing better feedback. Owners will also benefit from the new Infiniti InTuition system that allows drivers to fully customize a digital environment with seat position, HVAC, audio, navigation, and more. The system works with the Intelligent Keys to create an environment set specifically for four different drivers that change preferences as they enter and start the vehicle.
“The Q60 Concept is Infiniti’s vision for a sports coupe,” said Alfonso Albaisa, Infiniti Executive Design Director. “Design, performance and premium quality – these are what makes a sports coupe stand above the crowd. And these are what you’ll find on the definitive Q60 Concept.”
The new Infiniti Q60 Concept is a glimpse at what the future Q60 mid-size sports coupe will be in production form that will likely make its debut in 2016.
