Cars, sun, fun, and charity. Does it get any better?
There’s a smell of exhaust fumes and fuel in the air. In the distance there is a roaring V-12 that is later following by a growling V8. The sun it out, and music is playing, it’s perfect.
September 25th, 2011 marked the third year of the Gold Coast Concours event put on by Martino Auto Concepts/MAC Auto Couture to benefit the Diabetes Research Institute (DRI). The previous year raised over $18,500 for the cause and this year looked to top that with a significantly larger participation of both man and machine.
For one day the village center of Glen Cove, NY was taken over by automotive enthusiasts working towards the benefit of DRI. Many of the stars from years past such as the artistic Lamborghini Diablo SV, crowd-gathering Ferrari Enzo, and always confident yellow Ferrari Dino, came back to the event. Joining the veterans were a host of newcomers ranging from three Ferrari 599 GTOs, Porsche Carrera GT, a lineup of Dodge Vipers, numerous BMW M3s, M5s, and even Alpinas, and Porsche 911s that spanned four generations. A DeLorean DMC-12 even traveled time to make an appearance.
Amongst the sea of automotive joy at the 2011 Gold Coast Concours were a few comedians sporting vanity plates and even a fuzzy brown monster. Some of the highlights included a Bentley Continental with “Winning” on the license plate; a Dodge Viper with a “V108URV8” plate; and a Ferrari 599 GTO displaying ”TAX DR”. Inside of an M3 we found a furry critter with large white teeth and square figure with its mouth agape.
The day was also highlighted with a number of vendors and businesses from the surrounding area. D2Forged supplied the tunes and fire-spitting DJ to set the tone for the event, Martino Auto Concepts showcased a few custom beauties, Lomotion/OE Tuning provided a pair of BMWs, and DONZ/Rennen brought out their best. At the heart of it all was the DRI booth taking donations and hosting a 50/50 raffle.
The 2011 Gold Coast Concours presented by Martino Auto Concepts/MAC Auto Couture proved to be a great success, bringing together automotive enthusiasts from all around. But more importantly, awareness and money was raised for the Diabetes Research Institute. For more information or to donate to the Diabetes Research Institute, visit DiabetesResearch.org.
Special thanks to Martino Auto Concepts for organizing the event and to the City of Glen Cove, NY for providing an outstanding venue. For more information on the event, visit GoldCoastConcours.com.
