RENNtech Carbon CLK63 AMG Black Series Exposed

RENNtech gives the super coupe even more carbon fiber.

Since the debut of the Mercedes-Benz CLK63 AMG Black Series, RENNtech has been creating custom one-of-a-kind aerodynamic upgrades for select clients such as IndyCar driver Tony Kanaan. But, due to the popularity and demand for the special carbon fiber components, RENNtech has decided to offer the complete program to the public for the ultimate CLK.

The program for the CLK63 AMG Black Series consists of a number of carbon fiber aerodynamic components that improve handling, braking, cooling, and overall performance all while keeping weight to a minimum. In addition to the carbon fiber parts, RENNtech also offers a suspension upgrade that turns the CLK into a serious performer. All components have been designed and thoroughly tested to ensure seamless integration with the stock bodywork.

At the front of the CLK63 Black Series is a new carbon fiber front splitter. While the new splitter may give the CLK a more powerful face, its main goal is increasing downforce and airflow. The smooth underbody of the CLK is incorporated into the design of the carbon fiber splitter, as the channels for the brake ducts are supplied with cool air to reduce brake fade. At high speeds, the splitter also works to increase downforce at the front axle, resulting in increased grip for the front wheels.

As the new front splitter increases airflow and changes the aerodynamic properties at the front of the CLK, it also works with new carbon fiber brake ducts to ensure proper cooling of the front brakes. The two carbon fiber brake ducts easily bolt-on to the front braking system without any modification to the heat shields. The ducts improve the flow of cool air to the brakes, thus reducing brake fade and pad wear that can limit performance during hard driving.

The rear also gains new aerodynamic carbon fiber components. Working in unison with the carbon fiber front splitter is a double-decker carbon diffuser that is integrated into the CLK’s smooth underbody. Turbulent underbody air is reduced with the new diffuser and cool air is sent to the rear differential oil cooler to reduce thermal stress. The diffuser also helps decrease drag and keeps the CLK planted to the tarmac at high speeds. The rear also wears a new carbon DTM adjustable wing, designed to improve downforce and stability at the rear.

The carbon fiber components aren’t limited to just the bodywork of the RENNtech Mercedes CLK63 AMG Black Series. Under the hood lies a provocative carbon fiber air box that boosts performance. The redesigned air box increases airflow to the engine boosting the horsepower output of the 6.2-liter to 510 ponies.

RENNtech also offers a suspension package to owners that are looking to achieve maximum grip. The front and rear can be fitted with adjustable camber bushings that allow drivers to create the optimal suspension settings for different tracks or driving styles.

RENNtech currently offers all of the carbon fiber and suspension components for the Mercedes-Benz CLK63 AMG Black Series. The front splitter is available for $2,450 and the front brake ducts can be purchased for $1,250. The rear diffuser can be fitted for $3,250, while the rear DTM spoiler is $3,350. The adjustable camber bushings are priced at $1,250 for the front and $945 for the rear set. The redesigned carbon fiber air box is available for $2,795.
