Brabus ECO PowerXtra D6S Performance Kit Exposed

Ultra-low emissions with tire shredding torque.

In 2014 new, more stringent emissions standards will go into effect for all European Union states in the effort to reduce pollution. Many automakers are already developing technology for future cars to help meet the new standards, and so is Brabus. With aftermarket tuning companies looking for ways to achieve higher power outputs, eco-friendly emissions are almost always neglected. But, Brabus GmbH is one of the few aftermarket tuning companies at the forefront of eco-friendly technology, and with the new Brabus D6S performance kit, becomes the world’s first tuning company to offer a tuned car that meets Euro VI emissions standards.

Brabus has had a long history of being ahead of the curve when it comes to low emissions and high-performance. In 1986 they were the first company to offer a tuned car with a catalytic converter with the Mercedes-Benz 190 E and AB1 tuning kit. The following year the entire Brabus lineup was equipped with catalytic converters. 1999 saw the Brabus 5.8 deliver 394 bhp while undercutting the Euro V emissions standards six years before they went into effect. Brabus again introduced another world-first in 2001 with the Brabus E V-8 CDI. The tuned E-Class was the only diesel to utilize a diesel particulate filter and De-NOx catalytic converters, while still passing Euro IV standards four years before they became standard. In 2007 the company developed the PowerXtra D6 Blue power kit for the Mercedes-Benz E 300 BlueTec, undercutting the Euro V emissions by 65 percent, again years before the standards went into effect.

2014 will see stricter emissions standards with the Euro VI regulations. For diesel-powered cars, carbon-dioxide emissions will be limited to 0.50 g/km, while mono-nitrogen oxides (NOx) are reduced to 0.08 g/km, and HC+NOx emissions are lowered to just 0.17 g/km. With more rigid standards coming, Brabus saw the opportunity to once again be one the first company to offer a tuned car that complied with Euro VI standards.

The new Brabus D6S performance kit gives Mercedes-Benz S 350 BlueTec the ability to meet the new EURO VI emissions standards and increase performance. The new performance kit can be installed by the Brabus D6S module via CAN data bus of the S-Class. The new performance tune works in conjunction with the 7G-Tronic Plus automatic transmission with selectable shift modes. When “Eco” mode is selected, the performance kit will keep the output of the 3.0-liter turbodiesel V-6 at a stock 258 horsepower (255 bhp), but increase torque to 509 lb-ft. from 1,600 RPM to 2,400 RPM. When the diver selects “Manual” or “Sport” mode, horsepower is increased to 313 (308 bhp) at just 3,600 RPM with torque remaining at 509 lb-ft. This helps the S 350 BlueTec accelerate to 62 mph in just 6.5 seconds, a full second faster than the stock model. Top speed remains at an electronically-limited 155 mph.

The Brabus D6S performance kit can also be installed on all four variants of the E 350 CDI BlueEfficiency and new CLS 350 CDI BlueEfficiency models. The kit increases power output to 313 horsepower (308 bhp) at 3,600 RPM and 509 lb-ft. of torque. All models including the S 350 BlueTec can be fitted with custom-tailored Brabus stainless-steel sport exhausts for even more performance and a powerful exhaust note.

The new Brabus D6S diesel performance kit comes standard with a three-year 100,000 km (62,000 mile) Brabus Tuning Warranty. Depending on driving style, customers may also see an increase in fuel economy with the Brabus D6S performance kit. Pricing has not been released.
