Quite the stolen car cruise.
Sean Dreelan, the North Sea millionaire who made his fortune in the oil and energy industry just had five of his automobiles stolen from his home last Tuesday, July 25th. Dreelan’s home in the suburbs of Aberdeen, Scotland (the Oil Capital of Europe) had five luxury cars worth a total of £455,000 stolen early Tuesday morning.
The most valuable of the five cars stolen was a £300,000 Ferrari 599 GTO and an £80,000 Aston Martin Rapide, both of which were recovered by police on Wednesday, July 26th. The other cars, a £55,000 Porsche 911 Turbo, £50,000 Toyota Land Cruiser and a £20,000 Audi A5 have not been recovered by Scotland police.
“Police Scotland can confirm five vehicles were stolen from a property in the Banchory-Devenick area in the early hours of Tuesday. Two of these vehicles have been traced by police,” said Detective Inspector Graeme Mackie.
Dreelan and his three brothers Mike, Tommy, and Ciaran, all sold their oil services company to Aker Solutions from Norway in 2008 for almost £100 million, and continued in their respective roles with the company since the sale. Tommy Dreelan, was quite the automotive enthusiast and that passion extended to his brother, Sean.
Since the incident, Police Scotland charged 17-year old Liam Smith with theft by housebreaking, driving or being in a vehicle while knowing it has been taken without permission and driving while disqualified, as well as failing to report an accident and failing to give details of the vehicle owner when he appeared in Aberdeen Sheriff Court.
Smith made no plea in the case and made bail.
Although two of the more expensive cars were recovered, the remaining three have not been reported as returned.
