Behind the Development of the Porsche 991 911

Engineering a masterpiece.

The Porsche 991 generation 911 was unveiled at the 2011 IAA in Frankfurt, Germany. The new 911 model improves in just about every aspect, rewarding drivers with a one-of-a-kind driving experience.

August Achleitner, Head of the Porsche 911 Product Line, explained some of the new advancements in the new 911. The Porsche 991 is lighter; has a wider track, wheelbase, and wheels; features a new seven-speed manual gearbox; electronic steering system; and more powerful engines. The result of these new advancements is an improved Nurburgring time of just 7:40; approximately 13 seconds quicker than the 997.

While the new Porsche 991 generation features many improvements, it still has the same classic 911 DNA. The new platform will be used for the next 14 years by Porsche, but expect it to be the benchmark for years to come.
