Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 Lapping the Nürburgring Video

The most powerful Corvette breaks the 7:20 barrier.

The new Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 doesn’t gain any power for the 2012 model year, but it does gain some slight chassis tweaks and new tires that make it over six seconds faster around the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife than the 2008 ZR-1.

”Testing at the Nurburgring is one of the important methods we have to validate our car in the toughest track conditions.” says Tadge Juechter, Corvette vehicle line director and chief engineer. In 2008, Chevrolet was able to achieve a 7:26.4 lap time around the 12.9-mile track. This time, the 2012 ZR-1 wears new Michelin Pilot Sport Cup Zero Pressure tires that offer more grip and are available options for both the Z06 and ZR-1 models. This, along with the Corvette’s Performance Traction Management (PTM) system, helped the 2012 MY ZR-1 break the 2008 record.

Check out the new Corvette ZR-1 video showing the car lap the Nürburgring in a new Corvette record of 7:19.63.
