A classic Porsche and Ferrari battle.

The American Le Mans Series is unfortunately no more. ALMS and Grand-Am have ended and combined for the Tudor United SportsCar Racing Championship. It’s a sad day to see the great racing series come to an end, and we’re going to take a look back at one of the great battles between the No.45 Flying Lizard Motorsports Porsche 911 and the No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari F430 at the final lap of the 2007 12 Hours of Sebring.

The battle for the checkered flag was one of the greatest as Jörg Bergmeister in the No. 45 Porsche 911 raced against Jaime Melo in the No. 62 Ferrari F430. The two were neck-and-neck vying for the win in the GT2 class after Bergmeister was over a full-second behind.

It was a battle for the ages. Audi has just captured the win and fireworks were erupting in the background as the two drivers drove all-out to get the checkered flag. It couldn’t have been a better backdrop at a better track.

With Bergmeister trailing, Melo locked up his brakes and the gap between the two closed. The Michelin tires were spent after a double-stint on the Ferrari and the Porsche was better suited to take the lead. Coming into the straightaway, Bergmeister was able to gain the lead and the preferred line going into the final corner. Then Melo was able to recapture some ground and the two made contact going to the finish line. Bergmeister was not happy with the result after the contact, but Melo and his team were awarded the win.

We hope to see the same high-octane battles in the Tudor United SportsCar Racing Championship!
