Speeding up the German V-8.

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG and its potent naturally-aspirated V-8 engine might be gone, but the Mercedes-AMG GT and GT S models are here with a twin-turbo V-8 in a smaller, more affordable package. They have lots of power and fun packed into their curvaceous coupe architecture and McChip-DKR is turning things up a notch.

The German software tuning specialists worked extensively with the new 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V-8 engine in the two Mercedes-AMG GT and GT S models to create even more power, reliably. The new M178 AMG engine is arguable more enticing for tuners like McChip-DKR due to its force-fed nature as opposed to the naturally-aspirated AMG engines like the M156 6.2-liter V-8 used in previous AMG models.

Both the Mercedes-AMG GT and GT S models with the M178 twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engines were boosted by McChip-DKR. The 456 horsepower, 443 lb-ft. output in the GT and 503 horsepower and 479 lb-ft. in the GT S were each pushed by the McChip-DKR Stage 1 software tune that focuses on optimizing the fuel, ignition, and other parameters in the ECU.

As a result of the new Stage 1 tune, both the Mercedes-AMG GT and GT S produce a whopping 590 horsepower and 553 lb-ft. of torque, allowing for a 0-60 mph acceleration time of just 3.6 seconds as opposed to 3.8 seconds, stock. Top speed is also pushed back to 198 mph as well.

McChip-DKR also configured their new Stage 1 software tune for the Mercedes-AMG C63 and C63 S models since they are powered by the same 4.0-liter, V-8 engine. The Stage 1 tune gives both cars 590 horsepower and 575 lb-ft. of torque. The torque figure is higher than the GT and GT S models since the transmission can handle the added torque in the C63 and C63 S models. The top speed limiter is also removed on both models as well.
