Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG refined by Brabus

Brabus highlights the sporty nature of the Gullwing and gives a preview of what’s to come.

Looking at the SLS AMG brings back memories of the famed 300 SL Gullwing – a car that boasted advanced technology, captivating style, and brought motorsport performance to the street. With the latest SLS AMG, Brabus enhances the technology, style, and dynamic performance to bring out the newest Gullwing’s true character with new carbon fiber aerodynamic bodywork, a set of lightweight forged wheels, a custom-tailored interior, and a performance exhaust.

In order to give the SLS AMG a more aggressive appearance while reducing aerodynamic lift, Brabus chose to utilize a durable and extremely lightweight carbon fiber. Similar to the carbon fiber used in Formula 1 racing, the lightweight components were designed and developed using a wind tunnel in order to ensure optimal downforce and cooling for the engine and brakes. The face of the SLS AMG receives a small, but striking makeover with a new front spoiler that reduces lift and two covers for the upper air inlets that redirect air more efficiently for improved cooling. Both of the front fender air outlets flaunt a new carbon fiber trim highlighted by a glowing Brabus emblem activated by the keyless remote or door handle. The true power possessed by the SLS AMG is manifested with the upgraded rear. A subtle carbon fiber spoiler is mounted at the rear and matches the trunk’s smooth contour, while an intimidating rear fascia with custom tailpipe cutouts is also fitted. All carbon fiber components will be available in clear coat carbon fiber or with a custom paint for a unique look.

To squeeze out additional performance and complete the stunning design, Brabus has custom-developed new forged wheels for the SLS AMG. Weighting up to 12 percent less than stock wheels, the Brabus Monoblock F Platinum Edition forged wheels feature a cross-spoke design and measure a staggering 9.5J x 20 at the front axle and 11J x 21 at the rear. Customers have the choice of fitting either Pirelli or Yokohama 275/30 ZR20 front and 295/25 ZR21 rear high performance tires for improved traction. In addition to the custom wheels, Brabus has also developed a Smooth Ride Suspension (Ride Control) that lowers the SLS AMG by 40 mm (1.6 in.) and also allows for adjustable damper settings. Brabus will be offering the Front Lift system for the SLS AMG alongside the Smooth Ride Suspension to make driving over speed bumps and parking ramps easier.

After opening the iconic Gullwing doors, passengers are greeted by door sills decorated with a glowing Brabus logo surrounded by quilted leather. The custom-tailored interior is handcrafted by the Brabus upholstery shop and fitted with exclusive options. To highlight the SLS AMG’s exceptional performance, Brabus has installed matte-anodized pedals, a 250-mph speedometer, and ergonomic sports steering wheel. Brabus offers high-quality leather and alcantara in any color as well as carbon fiber and wood trim sets in any finish.

While no major upgrades have been made to the engine, a lightweight titanium sport exhaust system can be installed. Ending in four bold pipes, the exhaust weighs 26 pounds less than stock and adds 10 horsepower to the 6.3-liter’s output. A special pneumatic bypass gate in the exhaust can be controlled by the driver and releases a menacing roar when open. For customers with neighbors who don’t appreciate a loud V-8, the bypass gate can be closed, resulting in an exhaust note that is even quieter than stock. Although Brabus only offers a lightweight titanium exhaust at this time, the company is developing an engine tuning program that looks to utilize more of the 250-mph speedometer.

The stunning conversion program for the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is currently available from Brabus GmbH. Accessories can be purchased individually or as a complete package, and can be customized to create a one-of-a-kind SLS AMG. An engine tuning program is currently in development and will significantly increase the power output of the 6.3-liter V-8.
