A prototype with a historic livery.
Some of the most iconic Porsche racecars have worn the Martini Racing livery. From 1973 to 1978, Martini Racing was the official partner of the Porsche factory racing team, with their memorable red, and light blue livery adorning the likes of the Porsche 908, 917, 935, 936, and 911 RS and RSR models.
Porsche enjoyed many victories while wearing Martini Racing colors. The automaker was first overall at the 1973 Targa-Florio, won the 1976 Sports Car World Championship, and scored two overall victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1976 and 1977. Keeping along with their successful and storied history together, Porsche has dressed their new 918 Spyder prototype in the sexy red and blue stripes.
The new Martini Racing 918 Spyder prototype wears the historic color scheme as homage to the innovative racecars that were leaders in terms of technology and performance. The new 918 Spyder will feature a 4.6-liter V-8 with 570 horsepower that revs to the sky and helps power the super car along with electric motors at the front and rear axles for a total of 770 horsepower. The latest hybrid technology with advanced regeneration, battery, thermal management, electronics, and virtually every other technology aimed at improving efficiency will be utilized by the new 918 Spyder.
The new super car will feature a lightweight and incredibly strong CFRP monocoque shell and reinforced targa-style roof with a host of chassis, interior, and exterior components optimized for weight. The low weight, coupled with the advanced hybrid drivetrain is expected to return an impressive 3.0 liters of fuel per 100 km of consumption, approximately 70g of carbon dioxide emissions per kilometer, and have the ability to run 25 km on pure electric power.
The Martini Racing 918 Spyder prototype and the production models are expected to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than 3.0 seconds flat. Top speed for the super car is expected to be over 202 mph, while the top speed in all-electric mode will be set at over 93 mph.
But enough of the specs, let’s admire the Martini Racing 918 Spyder prototype before it undergoes testing at the Nürburgring!
