Getting ready for their new 2014 LMP1 return.

Motorsports has played a huge role in the history of Porsche and has helped them create some of the best sports cars in the world. Their racing history is filled with legendary drivers, cars, and wins, with Jacky Ickx and the Porsche 936 holding a special place.

The Porsche 936 may not have the same name recognition as the 917, 962, and 908, but it still was an important car in the brand’s racing history. The talented Jacky Ickx was able to pilot the sports car prototype to victories in 1976, 1977, and 1981, and took home the checkered flag at Le Mans in 1982 with the Porsche 956.

The 936 sported a variant of the turbocharged flat-six used in the Porsche 930, spitting out 540 horsepower. This was good enough for a top speed of 218 mph when the aerodynamics were tuned accordingly.
