Flexing the brand’s muscles.

For almost 30 years, AC Schnitzer has been working with BMW’s M-spec vehicles to make them even better. At the 2016 Geneva International Motor Show, they showed off the AC Schnitzer ACL2 – a BMW M235i with the heart of an M4.

With the AC Schnitzer ACL2, the “less is more” principle was applied throughout the entire sports car in terms of weight. An array of carbon fiber and lightweight materials were used to keep weight to a minimum, leading to even better overall performance and driving enjoyment.

The Frankenstein BMW M235i concept is visually more menacing and dynamic than ever before while wearing a Classic Racing Green paint. A full carbon fiber skirt, spoiler, splitter, side wing combo redirect air and reduce lift at the front axle. Above, a carbon fiber hood with black vents keeps the potent turbocharged engine cool.

In total, the AC Schnitzer ACL2 is 140 mm wider thanks to extended front and rear fenders with integrated air outlets and intakes, and a pair of carbon fiber side mirrors. At the rear, a carbon fiber diffuser integrates the quad exhaust tailpipes. An imposing carbon fiber “Racing” wing with Gurney tear-off edge provides a 250 mm overlap on the trunk for a tremendous amount of downforce.

While the AC Schnitzer ACL2 is based on the BMW M235i, it has the heart of a BMW M4. The M4’s turbocharged engine benefits from a software tune, lightweight battery, and optimized carbon fiber air intake. Getting gasses out as fast as possible is an AC Schnitzer downpipe combo with 200 cpsi catalytic converters and sports muffler. In total, the AC Schnitzer ACL2 produces 570 horsepower and 546 lb-ft. of torque.

Armed with the Drexler rear differential with 25-95% locking rate the AC Schnitzer ACL2 is capable to reaching 62 mph from rest in just 3.9 seconds and hitting a top speed of 205 mph. The new AC Schnitzer ACL2 comes packed with a super car-like 5.59 lbs/horsepower power-to-weight ratio.

Transferring that power to the road is a new set of in-house AC1 lightweight forged wheels wearing a two-tone anodized red and polished finish. Both the front and rear axles of the widebody AC Schnitzer ACL2 wear the forged wheels in a 10.0J x 20 size with 285/25 ZR20 Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires for superb levels of grip. New six- and four-piston front and rear brake calipers grab 400 x 38 mm front and 380 x 28 mm rear carbon ceramic discs were installed for fade-free stopping power. The newly-fitted rotating mass works with a dynamic AC Schnitzer Clubsport suspension with adjustable compression and rebound while a new M4 carbon fiber strut brace stiffens things up.

Inside, is all business for the AC Schnitzer ACL2. The two front carbon fiber racing seats wear a combination of black and green nappa leather with ACL2 logos while green and perforated nappa leather mixes with black suede leather and green stitching throughout the cabin. Both of the rear seats were replaced with carpeting for the sake of weight. Facing the driver is a new three-spoke sports airbag steering wheel and an AC Schnitzer control display and cluster with 330 km/h speedometer.

The AC Schnitzer ACL2 also sports a variety of aluminum components such as the foot pedals and illuminated foot rest, “Black Line” gear knob, and “Black Line” handbrake. New door sills with ACL2 logos also match the velour floor mats with the same logo.

The AC Schnitzer ACL2 is just a concept vehicle based on the BMW M235i shown at the Geneva Motor Show. The vehicle is not for sale, but would cost an estimated 149,000 euros.
