From May 5th through the 8th, the London Motor Show will give guests from around the globe the opportunity to see over 130 models from 40 brands at Battersea Evolution. HRH Prince Michael of Kent will open the show with special guests, Sir Stirling Moss, Tiff Needell, Ben Collins, and Nigel Mansell will be speaking on important motoring issues. Even the latest in automotive technology and gaming will be on-hand for attendees to test out.
While the 2016 London Motor Show has quite the star-studded lineup of speakers and guests, the one-off Land Rover Defender 90 London Motor Show Edition designed by Afzal Kahn will be at the center of attention.
“It’s an honor to be able to play host to this magnificent one-off Land Rover Defender and to offer visitors the opportunity to see this limited edition vehicle,” said Stephen Maitland-Oxley, Events Director at the London Motor Show. “The Defender is such an iconic car and now holds an even larger legacy following its production ending in January this year, so to be able to get one more glimpse of this model is fantastic.”
The fact that the Land Rover Defender is no longer in production makes this one-off special model quite the collector’s piece. Kahn designed the SUV to have a contemporary feel without taking away the classic design elements that have made it so iconic over the years.
“I have created a vehicle that celebrates the history and unique personality of the Defender,” said Afzal Kahn. “This is a fitting tribute to one of the world’s best loved vehicles and I would welcome feedback from Defender owners and enthusiasts alike who are welcome to visit my Kings Road boutique in Chelsea.”
The Santorini Black Land Rover Defender 90 London Motor Show Edition boasts a new front bumper with an integrated sump guard, new lighting, and an X-Lander grille with complementing mesh hood vents. The contemporary and rugged nature is easily apparent through the extended front and rear fenders with exposed bolt apertures and venting dressed in Satin Black. The Defender 90 London Motor Show Edition also proudly displays new rear fender graphics along with a Chelsea Truck Company spare wheel cover.
The off-road capabilities and heritage are on display with the fat-spoked Mondial wheels that measure 9.0 x 20 at the front and rear with thick 275/55/20 tires. New hard-wearing mud flaps aren’t afraid to get dirty while a twin cross-hair exhaust and Burnt Orange Metallic brake calipers add a high-end touch.
Inside, the transformation continues with a host of custom-tailored furnishings that put it in a class all its own. All of the factory seats in the Land Rover Defender 90 London Motor Show have been replaced with sport GTB seats up front and folding seats at the rear. Soft, customized Hield Fabric gives the SUV a plush, extravagant look and feel that continues to hand-trimmed parts of the center console, passenger dashboard, instrument binnacle, handles, door panels and cards, and the trunk paneling.
Although the unique Hield Fabric stands out in the black interior, a special Churchill time clock and machined aluminum foot pedals quickly capture attention as well. Also coming standard on the Defender 90 London Motor Show Edition is satellite navigation, a reverse camera, high-end billet and leather steering wheel, and a four-speed automatic transmission.
The one-off, custom-designed Santorini Black Land Rover Defender 90 London Motor Show Edition will be priced at £65,000, and quickly become a vehicle that’s highly sought-after by collectors.
