The Record-setting AMS Alpha 12 GT-R Video

The World’s First 8-second R35 GT-R.

On July 26th, 2011, AMS Performance set out to break a speed record at the drag strip with the Alpha 12 GT-R. The 1,309 horsepower Nissan GT-R had previously set a 60 to 130 mph time of just 3.46 seconds. This time, the AMS Alpha 12 didn’t just break their previous time, they became the first eight-second R35 GT-R.

During the run, AMS Special Projects Technician, Ivan Phipps, piloted the GT-R to a quarter-mile time of just 8.975 seconds at 169.49 mph. In the same run, he also beat the previous 60 to 130 mph time with a world record-setting 3.34 seconds. The street-legal car is equipped with all the standard goodies from the factory and is capable of being daily driven.
