Volkswagen turns things up a notch with the new CC R-Line

It may not be a true R, but it’s got the looks.

Volkswagen’s Passat CC (now just CC) has been incredibly popular since it was introduced as an affordable “four-door coupe” to the market. The sedan did offer consumers sleek, modern styling along with “German” handling dynamics. Now, Volkswagen is looking to give customers even more sport with the new CC R-Line that will make its world debut in Leipzig, Germany.

The new Volkswagen CC R-Line may not be a true R model like the R32/Golf R, but does offer an exclusive touch of sport. The famous 2.0-liter turbocharged TSI inline four with 200 horsepower will power the four-door coupe and be available with either a DSG six-speed dual-clutch transmission or six-speed manual to keep the enthusiasts happy. The suspension has also been tuned to offer better handling precision over the Sport model and will reward more spirited drivers in the corners.

The 2013 model year CC models were refreshed and wear a more Teutonic design instead of the sleek, almost rounded figure of the pre-refresh CC models. The new CC R-Line comes standard with a few sportier exterior goodies such as a more pronounced front bumper with integrated fog lights and larger air intake with chrome accents and an “R-Line” logo on the grille. A pair of side skirts is fitted between the new 18-inch five double-spoke aluminum alloy wheels. On the rear, Volkswagen added a black tint to the taillights to give the CC R-Line a sportier, more dynamic look.

Exclusive R-Line features carry over into the interior as well. Exclusive scuff plates in stainless steel with the “R-Line” logo will greet passengers. Facing the driver is a multifunction steering wheel with paddle shifters for cars equipped with the DSG transmission.

A host of features will come standard on the Volkswagen CC R-Line. A touchscreen Premium VIII sound system with eight speakers, HD radio, and six-disc CD player ensures superior sound quality. All of the seats will wear V-Tex leatherette and both front seats feature 12-way adjustability and heating functions. Bi-Xenon headlights along with a host of LED exterior lights will help to illuminate the road ahead of all CC R-Line drivers.

The new 2013 Volkswagen CC R-Line will make its world debut in Leipzig. The new model will be sold in the United States towards the end of 2012. Official pricing has not been released.
