wheelsandmore Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Exposed

Proving the Anglo-German supercar still reins king.

After being discontinued by Mercedes-Benz in 2009, the SLR McLaren seemed as it would fade away as newer, more powerful supercars came into the market with better performance. wheelsandmore however, was not about to let it go quietly.

The SLR embodied power, not only with its hefty 500,000+ USD price tag, but with its hand-built supercharged V-8 engine that helped the GT reach speeds as high as 209 mph break off 0-62 mph acceleration times of just 3.2 seconds. The engineers at wheelsandmore though, believed that the 5.4-liter packed some untapped potential just waiting to be exploited. Using a new engine software and pulley system along with a hand-made full exhaust comprised of new manifolds, sport catalytic converters and mufflers, and remote valve flaps, the German tuner was able to extract 730 horsepower and 920 lb-ft. of tire shredding torque.

The goal of the wheelsandmore team wasn’t just to focus on creating a brutal power upgrade. They also concentrated on improving what made the SLR so spectacular, by enhancing the “Sport, Leicht, Rennsport”, or “Sport, Light, Racing”. With the SLR already utilizing a number of lightweight parts, wheelsandmore looked for different areas to shed even more weight while optimizing the SLR’s driving dynamics. One area the German tuner was able to cut weight from was the suspension. An entirely new, lightweight aluminum alloy race coilover system weighing 30 percent less than stock was installed on the wheelsandmore SLR, featuring adjustable compression and rebound.

wheelsandmore also saw that additional weight could be cut by adding new wheels. Using their 6Sporz forged three-piece wheels, they were not only able to drop a few pounds, but also add some unique styling. The staggered 9 x 20 front and 11.5 x 20 rear wheels wear high-performance Dunlop 255/30/20 front and 305/25/20 rear tires, and can be customized in number of different colors on the wheelsandmore SLR.

For customers that want a bit more show for their Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren with more go, wheelsandmore offers a number of interior and exterior carbon fiber components. For the exterior, the German tuner can install a carbon fiber diffuser and exterior mirror caps. Inside, owners can custom tailor the cockpit with carbon fiber entrance panels, steering wheel, handbrake lever, and more for a unique look.

All components for the wheelsandmore SLR McLaren can be purchased as an entire package or as individual accessories to create a one-of-a-kind supercar. Pricing and performance figures have not been released.
