Brabus Boosts the Mercedes-AMG GT and GT S

Going from sports car to super car.

The Mercedes-AMG GT and GT S are sports cars that are right on the border of being considered legitimate super cars. However, they just miss out to the lower-tier of super cars like the Huracan, 911 Turbo, etc. Brabus has taken away any doubt with their new upgrade package set to make its debut in Frankfurt.

The biggest difference with the Brabus Mercedes-AMG GT and GT S lies under the hood with the twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine. The Brabus engineers developed a new PowerXtra B40-600 plug-and-play module that adjusts the engine’s fuel injection, ignition, and boost pressure mapping for an added 90 horsepower and 74 lb-ft. of torque in the GT S. As an additional option, a Brabus valve-controlled quad sports exhaust made from titanium and carbon reduces backpressure and weight for better overall performance. The system also utilizes a cockpit-mounted control that adjusts the volume of the exhaust using special valves.

In total, the new Brabus-tuned Mercedes-AMG GT S creates a whopping 600 horsepower (591 bhp) at 6,400 RPM and 553 lb-ft. of torque at 4,800 RPM. That allows the coupe to reach 62 mph from rest in a mere 3.6 seconds and hit a top speed of 202 mph. Those are super car numbers, folks.

Visually, the Brabus Mercedes-AMG GT and GT S also looks the super car part. The German team developed a full carbon fiber aerodynamic kit using a wind tunnel to optimize cooling, downforce, and stability at high speeds. Each part comes with a clear-coated finish or can be given a matte coating or painted to match the body color.

Up front, the Mercedes-AMG GT and GT S gain a new front spoiler and covers for the front air intakes that optimize cooling. New LED side markers shine bright along with the new Brabus logos that light up blue on the front fender air outlets when the keyless-entry remote or door handles are used. New side skirts visually elongate and lower the profile of the GT and GT S while calming the airflow between the two wheels. The rear boasts a new carbon fiber spoiler and diffuser insert with integrated exhaust outlets.

Power and strength are also on display beneath the fenders thanks to the Brabus forged monoblock wheels designed specifically for the GT and GT S. New cross-spoke Brabus Monoblock F Platinum Edition forged wheels in mirror-polished, brushed, or titanium were installed in a staggered 9.5J x 20 front and 11.0J x 21 rear fitment with 275/30 ZR20 and 305/25 ZR21 Continental, Pirelli, or Yokohama tires. Handling also gets more dynamic thanks to new Brabus sport springs tailored specifically for the new low-profile tires that reduce the ride height by 15 mm.

Inside, things get even more luxurious and exclusive for the Mercedes-AMG GT and GT S. Here, a new set of carbon fiber door entry sills with stainless steel inserts and illuminated Brabus logos shines in either red or white. Matte anodized chrome pedals give drivers a better feel while new Brabus aluminum paddle shifters allow for easier and more precise gear changes. As with all of their cars, the Brabus upholstery shop can create a fully-customized leather and alcantara interior with a range of complementing carbon fiber or wood trim pieces.
