Go for a Cruise with the Piecha Design Avalange GT-R Mercedes-Benz SL

Getting aggressive with the R231.

While the Mercedes-Benz SL R231 is an impressive vehicle, it looks more like a boulevard cruiser than a bruiser, unless you’re talking about the AMG variants. Piecha Design wanted to change that so Owner and Designer, Marcus Piecha, spent months to create the new SL Avalange GT-R that adds a much more aggressive and powerful look to the Roadster.

The new OEM-quality body kit has a clean, accurate fitment for an uninterrupted flow of custom body work. The front fascia changes dramatically with the new Avalange GT-R package with larger air inlets in the front bumper alongside air blades and their integrated LED daytime running lights. A new spoiler lip sits at the bottom and helps to keep the front axle planted at high speeds. The more aggressive look is also attributed to a new nose that has a downward slant that extends forwards for a flat, broad shape. Atop the engine sits a new set of aero-wing vents that help to dissipate heat and create the impression of speed.

Each of the front fenders in the Piecha Design Avalange GT-R feature the same vent design as those found on the hood with a vertical slat and two horizontal fins. The 12-piece fin set can be ordered in high-luster black, galvano-silver, or shadow-graphite matte with optional lacquering to complement or contrast the color of the body. The Mercedes-Benz SL Roadster also benefits from a pair of Piecha Design Avalange GT-R side skirts that extend outwards and feature an optional LED undercar illumination system at night.

The rear of the Roadster gains more aggressive aerodynamics and styling as part of the Piecha Design Avalange GT-R package. A spoiler sits atop of the trunk while a new diffuser with integrated double-trapezoid exhausts and F1-style LED reversing light and fog light. The finishing touch is a pair of vertical air outlets integrated in both flanks of the bumper. The factory Vario Roof can be optioned up with a new module that allows for operation at speeds up to 60 km/h or through the key fob.

Driving performance and feel was also taken into account, especially in the chassis. Here, the Piecha Design Avalange GT-R Mercedes-Benz SL Roadster features a set of concave MP1 wheels with a titan semi-gloss finish. The wheels are fitted in a 9.5 x 20 front and 11.0 x 20 rear fitment with 255/30 R20 and 305/25 R20 sport tires for added grip. As an option, customers can also select the dark graphite grey MP3 wheels that showcase a special concave drop-center design at the rear to emphasize the car’s rear-wheel drive muscle.

The final option on the Mercedes-Benz SL is a new stainless steel exhaust system that has all the burbles, backfires, and baritone sounds to make you feel all giddy inside.

The new Piecha Design Avalange GT-R is available as an entire package for the Mercedes-Benz SL Roadster for less than 10,000 Euros including the wheels, tires, installation, and painting process.
