DP Motorsport Builds an Ultra-Lightweight 911 Sleeper 3.2

DP Motorsport Porsche 911 Sleeper 3.2

It’s not your average 911 rebuild.

One of the principles that DP Motorsport embraces with their vehicle builds is “Lightweight, for an absolute driving experience.“ This idea of keeping weight to a minimum ensures maximum overall performance with virtually every aspect of the car. Their latest example of this is the 911 Sleeper 3.2 – a car that was built to celebrate the company’s 40th Anniversary.

Based on a 1986 911 (G-Series) model, the new DP Motorsport 911 Sleeper 3.2 is an ultra-lightweight sports car draped in sheep’s clothing. The German company was able to cut a total of 617 lbs. through numerous lightweight measures, brining the overall weight down to a mere 1,995 lbs.

First, DP Motorsport stripped all of the factory paint and undercoating, and then rebuilt it using lightweight components such as Perspex windows, and perforated and galvanized hinges and brackets, before it was repainted with metallic rock-green.

The interior of the 911 Sleeper 3.2 was also built up with lightweight components. The cockpit features two 935-style Lollipop seats with Williams four-point harnesses, RS lightweight carpeting, electronically-heated windshield, a lightweight 25Ah gel battery, and 350 mm steering wheel. For safety, DP Motorsport installed an in-house Club Sport roll bar, and racing cable harness.

The low overall weight of the Porsche 911 Sleeper 3.2 ensures that the car really shines in the corners, especially with the new chassis upgrades. DP Motorsport installed a new set of street/sport Bilstein shock absorbers with Super Pro polyurethane bushings and uniballs, while a welded strut brace at the front axle stiffens up the body. Behind the 7.0 x 16 front and 9.0 x 16 rear Fuchs wheels with 225/50 and 245/45 Michelin semi-slicks sits a braking system borrowed from a 964 911 Carrera 2.

Propelling the lightweight 911 Sleeper 3.2 is a modified 3.2-liter flat-six engine. DP Motorsport gave the 3.2-liter a new set of 288-degree Schrick camshafts, new ported and flowed cylinder heads, and 67-mm throttle valve, while a lightened flywheel finishes it off. Sound and backpressure are both optimized with the use of an RSR racing lightweight titanium exhaust that includes a pair of HJS 100-cell catalytic converters. The upgrades allow the engine to crank out a total of 270 horsepower and 226 lb-ft. of torque, all of which is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed 915 transmission with limited-slip differential, external cooler, and short-shifter with extended gearshift knob.

Part of what makes the DP Motorsport Porsche 911 Sleeper 3.2 so special is the fact that it is devoid of any power steering, ESP, ABS, and other electronic driving aids, ensuring that the sports car delivers a pure driving experience.

The Porsche 911 Sleeper 3.2 can be purchased for € 89.911, with those last three digits in the price tag corresponding with the Porsche model. The German company also offers many of the featured upgrades as well as restoration on a variety of vintage Porsche models.
