The Hennessey VR1200 CTS-V Coupe Says “Bugatti Who?”

The Twelve Titans of Terror.

Hennessey Performance loves to build things that go really fast. They also love to use all sorts of forced induction to make these pretty cars go fast. Now they’ve unleashed their Twelve Titans of Terror, a limited run of 12 VR1200 Cadillac CTS-V Coupes with over 1,200 horsepower coming from a highly modified V-8 engine and eating up asphalt like it’s their job.

The new Henessey VR1200 CTS-V Coupes offer Bugatti Veyron-rivaling performance from a twin-turbocharged V-8 engine with some good ol’ fashioned American engineering. The project starts out with the removal of the factory supercharged LSA engine and the addition of a 7.0-liter (427 cu.in.) aluminum V-8 engine. The engine was outfitted with forged aluminum pistons, forged steel crankshafts and connecting rods, high-flow cylinder heads, Hennessey VR1200 camshafts, and a fully-upgraded fuel system after being balanced and blueprinted.

That all sounds like a whole lotta’ fun, but the Texas-based tuner wasn’t done there. A new pair of ball-bearing, billet wheel precision turbochargers was installed along with dual wastegates and an adjustable boost controller that features 800-, 1,000-, and 1,226 horsepower settings. A new high-flow air induction system and air-to-water intercooler helps to suck in massive amounts of cool air while a stainless steel exhaust system with turbo downpipes helps to keep backpressure at a minimum.

All of this fun stuff works together in a state of controlled chaos thanks to the HPE engine management calibration and hours of dynometer and road testing. The result is an eye-popping 1,226 bhp at 6,400 RPM (1,066 hp to the rear wheels) and 1,109 lb-ft. of torque at 4,000 RPM (964 lb-ft. to the rear wheels). All of this power is sent to the rear wheels of the Hennessey VR1200 CTS-V through either a manual with Centerforce dual friction clutch upgrade or an automatic with performance build and torque converter upgrade (add. $20,000), and an extreme duty CV-Shaft upgrade.

The performance is equally impressive as the power figures. The sprint to 60 mph takes a mere 2.9 seconds and the quarter-mile breezes through in just 10.2 seconds at 141 mph. Top speed is set at 242 mph, enough to make the Bugatti Veyron sweat as an American Coupe rides its tail.

With great power comes handling and drivability challenges, and the Hennessey Performance team was able to overcome these obstacles with precision chassis upgrades on the CTS-V VR1200. The responsive magnetic ride control from the factory was tuned by John Heinricy for better dynamics and then lowered by one-inch at the front and rear. A set of front and rear sway bars ties things together and stiffen up the suspension. Next up was the wheels and tires, which were replaced with in-house multi-piece wheels in a 10 x 20 front and 13 x 20 rear fitment with 275/30YR-20 front and 345/30YR-20 rear Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. Finishing things up is a set of Brembo brakes with eight-piston front, six-piston rear calipers with 15.1-inch carbon ceramic rotors for lightweight stopping power.

But the Hennessey VR1200 CTS-V Coupe still wasn’t finished. The incredible top speed necessitated new aerodynamic improvements to ensure the super coupe would still be stable. A full carbon fiber body kit was designed and installed, featuring a front splitter, rear diffuser, and rear spoiler to help generate downforce. Wider front and rear fenders help to create a muscular stance, and a new extractor hood helps to reduce engine temperatures.

Finishing off the entire high-powered performance monster is a motorsports-themed interior. New carbon fiber door sills and trim decorates the interior along with alcantara headliner and Hennessey embroidered floor mats. Each of the front seats were replaced with lightweight and supportive leather and alcantara sport seats with racing harnesses finished off with embroidered headrests.

Only 12 of the Hennessey VR1200 CTS-V Coupes will be made by the Texas company. The car will come complete with a three-year, 36,000 mile warranty Hennessey badging, and special dashboard and engine plaques. Pricing and other availability details can be found by contacting Hennessey Performance.
