Randy Pobst takes the new AMG around Laguna Seca.

We love AMG simply because of the fact that they always spoil us with all sorts of hand-built, high-powered engines that make naughty noises and tire smoke. One of the newest go-fast factories of power from the performance division of Mercedes-Benz is the C63 AMG Black Series Coupe.

It’s a 510 horsepower naturally-aspirated 6.2-liter (or 6.3 if you’re using the fenders as an indicator) V-8 engine hand-assembled in the factory, that churns out a meaty 457 lb-ft. of torque. It has all sorts of motorsport goodies too, including carbon ceramic brakes, an incredibly stiff suspension setup, and carbon fiber spoilers for increased downforce.

MotorTrend and Randy Pobst decided to take a nicely-equipped $108,575 C63 AMG Black Series around Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway to see just how fast all of these fancy motorsports upgrades made the new AMG.

Come to find out, it’s fast, really fast. It even made Pobst giggle with enjoyment as he pulled off a quick 1:38.9 lap time around the famous racetrack.
