Touch the sky with the new Turbo Cabriolets.

The top-of-the-range 911 model family just doubled. Coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the 911 and the 40th anniversary of the 911 Turbo, the new Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet and 911 Turbo S Cabriolet have just been unveiled and will be coming to the Los Angeles Auto Show with their tops down. The two new models take the latest technology from Porsche and add an open-sky view.

It was only a matter of time before Porsche took the roof off of their new 991-generation 911 Turbo and Turbo S Cabriolet models, but customers won’t be able to enjoy them during the summer this year (unless you’re in the southern hemisphere) with the two cars making their debuts on November 20th in Los Angeles.

Both 911 Turbo and 911 Turbo S Cabriolets feature the same flared rear wheel arches that are 28 mm wider than the Carrera 4 models. With the top down, the increase in width is emphasized even further. Porsche also uses a panel bow top with lightweight magnesium frame to keep a Coupe-like profile arch when the top is closed. The roof can be opened and closed in about 13 seconds at speeds up to 31 mph.

The same heart-pounding performance and driving technology featured in the Turbo Coupe models are employed by the 911 Turbo and 911 Turbo S Cabriolets. The 911 Turbo Cabriolet sports a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter flat-six with 520 bhp from 6,000 to 6,500 RPM and 524 lb-ft. of torque from 2,100 to 4,250 RPM with overboost. The 911 Turbo S Cabriolet features the same engine tuned to 560 bhp from 6,500 to 6,750 RPM and 553 lb-ft. of torque from 2,200 to 4,000 RPM with overboost.

With the seven-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission standard, the 911 Turbo and Turbo S Cabriolet models accelerate to 60 mph in 3.3- and 3.0-seconds, while reaching a top speed of 195- and 197 mph, respectively. Both models are not only faster and more powerful than their predecessors, but are up to 15-percent more efficient and achieve an estimated 17 mpg/24 mpg (city/hwy).

The latest performance driving technologies from Porsche are utilized by both the 911 Turbo and 911 Turbo S Cabriolets. Rear-axle steering, active aerodynamics, and PTM all-wheel drive ensures the drop-top models can conquer any road or track. The active aerodynamics also allows drivers to adjust certain aspects of the car’s spoilers to improve high speed stability and efficiency.

Inside, the new Cabriolet models feature a host of standard features along with some optional goodies to make the driving experience even more enjoyable. An exclusive Black/Carrera Red color combo with 18-way adjustable memory adaptive Sport seats can be had as standard equipment. Each seat boasts leather-trimmed backrests with double-cap seams and carbon-look elements. If the flat-six doesn’t provide enough music with the top down, the 911 Turbo and Turbo S Cabriolets come standard with a BOSE sound system or customers can opt for a vehicle-first Burmester audio system. Porsche also offers radar-controlled adaptive cruise control, camera-based road sign and speed limit recognition, and reverse camera as options.

Both the Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet and 911 Turbo S Cabriolet will hit markets globally in December of 2013. Pricing for the 911 Turbo Cabriolet starts at $160,700 in the U.S. while the 911 Turbo S Cabriolet begins at $193,900.
