As all of the greatest cars ever made converge on Monterey, California for Monterey Car Week and the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, many automakers like BMW are debuting a few models that will make their way to the streets soon, one of which is the Concept M4 GTS.

The new BMW Concept M4 GTS is close to production guise despite the “concept” moniker, and was unveiled at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance as the latest in a long line of road-legal racers packed with all sorts of BMW M GmbH motorsport technology. Although it has a different name, it carries forth the lineage of special M3 variants such as the M3 Evolution, M3 Sport Evolution, M3 GT, M3 CSL, M3 GTS, and M3 CRT. It is also the first M3/M4 special production vehicle to be sold in the United States.

“While the BMW M4 Coupe embodies the ideal combination of motor sport genes and unrestricted everyday usability, the BMW Concept M4 GTS previews an emotionally powerful and exclusive special model conceived with an eye for trailblazing technology and a keen focus on the race track,” explains Frank van Meel, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW M GmbH. “Despite its outstanding track ability, it is still fully road-legal. This is racing technology for the road in the truest sense.”

The Frozen Dark Grey metallic paint of the new BMW Concept M4 GTS is contrasted by Acid Orange highlights on the new front splitter and wheels, showcasing the attention-to-detail that engineers and designers displayed for the new model.

Up front, its motorsports roots are visible through the manually-adjustable splitter in exposed carbon fiber with a wide air intake sitting above. A lightweight CFRP hood cuts weight and drops the center of gravity for better dynamics. At the rear, the manually-adjustable exposed carbon fiber wing proudly stands tall while a carbon fiber diffuser helps keep that big butt sticking to the road.

Another highlight at the rear of the BMW Concept M4 GTS is are the innovative OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diodes). The new, high-tech lights stand just 1.4 mm tall and give designers greater flexibility to create unique and precise lighting solutions. In this concept, they appear as layered lights with a three-dimensional look.

The vibrant Acid Orange paint is also worn on the new lightweight forged alloy wheels. The 666 M-styled wheels wear a polished face and Acid Orange inner sections, and measure a staggered 9.5J x 19 up front and 10.5J x 20 at the rear with sticky 265/35 R19 and 285/30 R20 Michelin Sport Cup 2 tires.

Under the CFRP hood on the BMW Concept M4 GTS lies an even more powerful variant of the M4’s 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six. The same advanced water injection system featured on the BMW M4 MotoGP Safety Car is used here to increase power. Water is sprayed into the intake manifold to absorb heat and cool the intake, which allows for greater boost pressure and earlier timing without engine “knocking”.

The inline-six of the BMW Concept M4 GTS will also utilize a more efficient cooling system that features a main radiator and additional units for high- and low- temperature circuits, transmission, and turbochargers, with the latter also using an indirect intercooler and additional water pump.

The new BMW Concept M4 GTS will be on display at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance as a concept model. Official production details and specifications will be unveiled at a later date.
