The Porsche 993 GT2 Turbo 3.6 Widebody MC600 by McChip-DKR Brings the Pain

Air-cooler superstar.

The 993-generation Porsche 911 was the last of the “true” 911s according to some of the diehard enthusiasts of the rear-engined sports car. Regardless of your thoughts on the great Porsche debate, the 993 models still command a hefty price tag compared to other generations and are highly collectable, especially the clinically insane 911 GT2 models.

But all of the mind-bogglingly craziness of the factory model seems a bit mellow compared to the 993 GT2 Turbo 3.6 Widebody MC600 by McChip-DKR and Kubatech. One respected customer came to the German tuning company and requested that the classic super car be transformed into a race car for the upcoming season once winter ended. What he got was a lightweight, full-on racecar that could compete with the best of today’s modern racers.

The entire car was completely gutted and rebuilt to ensure maximum quality, durability, and performance on the racetrack. The factory air-cooled 3.6-liter, twin-turbocharged flat-six engine was given a new, stronger engine block and fitted with a pair of refurbished K26 turbochargers from PÜTZ Motorsport to feed even more boost into each of the six cylinders. Backpressure is reduced via a new CARGRAPHIC exhaust system that features sport catalytic converters that erupt with a furious burst of power. After a new McChip-DKR software tune, things get a little insane as power for the rear-wheel drive super car grows to 604 horsepower and 625 lb-ft. of torque.

Putting all of that power to the ground without losing traction required some modifications to the chassis. Even in stock form, the 993 GT2 was known for its driving difficulty when pushed to its limits. To help remedy this, a DREXLER limited slip differential was installed along with new CARGRAPHIC RS wheels with a 10.0 x 18 front and massive 13.0 x 18 rear fitment. A new KW Competition Variant 3 upgrade was installed to improve the overall handling dynamics and ensure that turns melt away like butter.

With the new 993 GT2 Turbo 3.6 Widebody MC600 being designated for racing, much of the interior had to be gutted and modified to meet safety regulations and shed weight. Many of the factory interior panels were replaced with carbon fiber units to keep weight to a minimum while a roll cage provides a protective shell for the driver. New Recaro racing seats keep the driver locked in place and a short-throw shifter helps to make quick and precise gear changes. A fire extinguisher helps to prevent fires and a STACK information display records both video and data for fine-tuning.

The final touches to make the 993 GT2 ready for the racetrack were new carbon fiber components such as front flics, a chin spoiler, and add-on rear spoiler that offers adjustable angle for optimum downforce. The entire car was also given a new paintjob in classic grey.

The McChip-DKR 993 GT2 Turbo 3.6 Widebody MC600 required over 800 hours of labor and cost 200,000 Euros for the customer.
