An LS1-powered Italian wedge.

The Lamborghini Jalpa is one of those Italian sports cars from the 1980s that are often forgotten about. It was a more “affordable” Lamborghini and was overshadowed by its poster-boy Countach sibling. The Jalpa originally came with a 255 horsepower 3.5-liter V-8 engine that was capable of sending it to 62 mph in 6.0 seconds flat, which was good by 80s standards.

Today, that’s considered to be a bit slow, so one driver swapped in a 5.7-liter GM LS1 V-8 engine fed by a Magnuson supercharger producing 620 horsepower. That and a bunch of other modifications make for one jumpin’ Jalpa as shown in its two runs at the drag strip. The American-powered Italian wedge is capable of blasting through the ¼-mile in just 10.603 seconds, which is quite a bit faster than it was in the 80s. Oh, and it sounds evil.

Is the American-powered Lamborghini Jalpa a crazy 80s drag monster?
